2021 Alfisti Autumn Tour

Day 1 - Canberra Day 2 - Jindabyne Day 3 - Tumut Day 4 - Rutherglen

Forays in the Snowys, an Alfisti Autumn Tour from Canberra through the Snowy Mountains to Rutherglen.

25 Alfisti in 12 Alfas, 2 Lancias, a Stuttgart Spyder and an Outback, participated in this, the first, Forays in the Snowys Tour which commenced at the National Arboretum in Canberra, the day after Auto Italia.

Monday - Day 1

National Arboretum to Jindabyne

Canberra - Tharwa - Williamdale - Cooma - Dalgety - Jindabyne

The four-day tour departed Canberra mid-morning on Monday, making its way (after a troubled start, due to some unanticipated road works!) via Cotter Reserve and then along the foothills of the iconic Brindabella Ranges past Tidbinbilla (where the Deep Space Tracking Station is located), Namadgi and through Tharwa, before heading out to the Monaro Highway and south through Cooma to Dalgety.

A very enjoyable and lazy lunch was had at Tuscany in Dalgety. Following lunch, the Tour cruised on into Jindabyne for the first overnight stop and dinner at The Overflow in the Banjo Patterson Inn.


 

Tuesday - Day 2

Jindabyne to Tumut

Jindabyne - Adaminaby - Yarrangobilly Caves - Adelong Falls - Tumut

Day 2 took the Tour to Adaminaby to pay homage to the Big Trout ...

Then it was on to Yarrangobilly Caves, with a tour of the caves ...

followed by a picnic lunch in the National Park.

The day finished with a trip to the Adelong Falls Gold Mill ruins and then a convivial and hearty dinner at the Woolpack Hotel in Tumut.

Wednesday - Day 3

Tumut to Rutherglen

Tumut - Tumbarumba - Albury - Rutherglen

Day 3 saw the Canberrans head back home, while the serious Alfisti continued on Tour.
The first Tour stop was in Tumbarumba for morning tea.
The Tour then travelled south-west through Jingellic and onto the wonderful Murray River Road – a scenic and Alfa friendly road that follows along the south bank of the Murray River.

The group made a quick stop at Mt Alfred, for the view, before heading on to Talgarno, where a local Alfisti couple was collected, then on to lunch at the River Deck in Albury.

After lunch the Tour headed through Albury and along the Riverina Highway to Howlong before ducking back into Victoria and continuing to Rutherglen where a fabulous dinner was had at Tuileries.


 

Thursday - Day 4

Rutherglen to home

Day 4 involved an excellent late breakfast at The Other Place in Rutherglen (yes, that’s its name!) followed by a lazy morning looking around Rutherglen and/or its wineries. The Tour concluded with a very nice gourmet lunch at Ripe@Buller Wines.
